Diagnosis
As an adult, receiving an autism diagnosis can be a challenging experience.
Many adults choose not to pursue a formal diagnosis but find value in understanding themselves better.
For adults facing mental health challenges, you may be eligible for a referral through your GP, depending on your specific situation. It's advisable to consult with your GP regarding this option.

In most cases, adult autism diagnosis is available through private psychologists and psychiatrists. If you'd like a list of professionals in the Canterbury area, please email us, and we can provide you with this information.

Please be aware that there are costs associated with the diagnosis process. You should inquire about the pricing with the psychologist or psychiatrist you choose to work with.
Typically, the diagnosis process involves 4-5 sessions, billed at an hourly rate. The exact number of sessions may vary based on your individual circumstances and complexity.

The benefit of obtaining a diagnosis may include gaining access to support services through your local NASC (Needs Assessment and Service Coordination). NASC can help you access funding for additional support tailored to your specific autism-related needs.
This support is determined through a meeting with your local NASC provider, which in Christchurch is Life Links."
